Justin Wear

Justin’s Biography

In my youth I was an ever-busy athlete, yet wrestling escaped my lexicon until starting high school.   The sport quickly consumed me in a way many fellow wrestlers understand.   As part of the resurgence of the Winnacunnet High School wrestling team which had gone over two decades of inactivity, I became their first State and New England qualifier continuing on at Ithaca College for two years.

After leaving Ithaca, I coached for ten years between Hampton Academy JHS, as a JV coach at Phillips Exeter and head coach for St. Thomas in Dover.  There are many relationships between athletes and parents that I continue to appreciate today.

My officiating career began in 2018 and I quickly knew donning the stripes was the calling I’ve been missing.   I am truly blessed with the relationships with wrestlers,  coaches, parents and my officiating peers.   After  a few years of dedication to the craft, I was nominated and selected to officiate at the New England High School Championships in 2025 where I was surrounded by pioneers of New England wrestling and legends a plenty.

My desire is to continue officiating and promoting the growth of the sport in New Hampshire and New England and as a member of the NHWOA board, I can further my reach and support the efforts started many years ago that will continue on for years to come.  Wrestling truly is an all-inclusive sport.  Regardless of gender, height or weight,  there’s truly a place for everyone on the mat and win or lose, everyone learns valuable lessons to take with them into their adult lives similar to my path.
